Health and Other Benefits

1199SEIU National Benefit Fund and Greater New York Benefit Fund:

Members are generally eligible for benefits after they have been working for a contributing employer for 90 days or more, and the employer has made contributions to the Fund for 30 days or more. For questions about eligibility, call the Fund at (646) 473-9200.

1199SEIU National Benefit Fund for Home Care Employees:

You are eligible for health benefits once you have been working for a contributing employer for 120 or more hours per month for two consecutive months. If you have questions about your eligibility, call the Fund at (646) 473-9200. Generally, Home Care members are eligible for family coverage.

1199SEIU Home Health Aide Benefit Fund:

You are eligible for health benefits once you have been working for a contributing employer for 120 or more hours per month for two consecutive months. If you have questions about your eligibility, call the Fund at (646) 473-7470. Coverage is for members only.

Retiree Health Benefits

National Benefit Fund
You and your spouse are eligible for retiree health benefits through the National Benefit Fund if you:

  • Retire after age 55, or on a disability pension
  • Have at least 10 years of credited or vesting service with a contributing employer (or 20 years if you retire between ages 62 and 64)
  • Are an active member covered by the 1199SEIU Benefit Fund immediately before you retire. If you retire early and defer your pension, you may not be eligible for retiree health benefits.

    Greater New York Benefit Fund
    You are eligible for retiree health benefits through the Greater New York Benefit Fund if you:

    • Retire after age 62, or on a disability pension
    • Have at least 25 years of credited or vesting service with a contributing employer
    • Are an active member covered by the 1199SEIU Benefit Fund immediately before you retire. If you retire early and defer your pension, you may not be eligible for retiree health benefits.
