On November 10, the Quality Care Community (QCC) hosted its 12th annual Citywide Conference, reaching more than 450 participants – a record number. This year’s theme was “Transforming Nursing Homes for Generations.” Participants reviewed the highlights of the federal health reform legislation how the new law will help shape our industry. Workshop topics reflected the wide range of interests of nursing home staff, families and advocates.
More than 40 New York City nursing homes were represented at the conference, as well as facilities in New Jersey, Albany, Boston, Maryland and the Washington, DC area. Guests included surveyors from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services’ Regional Office; attendees from the New York State Department of Health, Improving Healthcare for the Common Good, PHI and Leading Age; and two members of UNISON, the organization representing tens of thousands of service workers in Ireland. Emi Kiyota, an architect and renowned organizational change consultant, provided the keynote address.
